How stress can be controlled to study our course book and its best outcome.
There are lots of stress during student life. lets talk about medical science student. being a medical student i am going through a lot of stress. due to which i am not being able to give my best or yield best from my study. i want to do best but i am not being able to do so. now a days i think the wish to do best also creating a kind of stress in my mind. why there is stress? how can i solve it? is it some of those little numbers of students in stress where i lie?
Before one understands why there is stress,one must know what is stress? Stress is basically a chain of physio-chemical reactions in animate bodies(read here Human body-mind)starting usualy with some thoughts or situations and perceived as continued unpleasantness and anxiety. As you see here that it is usually a thought which triggers these reactions therefore if one has to understand the stress one must dwell upon the whole process of thoughts.Even if stress is due to a situation,in that case too thoughts play a pivotal part in provoking stress. It is quite unfortunate that our whole education,culture give too much importance to thoughts.If you carefully analyse various thoughts which come to mind you will find that "thoughts" arise according to your past experiences.If somebody insulted you in past and he suddenly appears before you after some months your mind reacts with old thoughts although that person might "now" be a changed fellow.But your mind goes back in time and catches that old feeling and makes your so called "new" thought.Infact all thoughts are from the past.Common human brain is loaded since childhood with so much prejudice,descriminations,dogmas etc in the name of education,religion,nationality,geography etc that it becomes nearly impossible to have any thought which is not "coloured" with past experiences and teachings.We all always try to live our past or we ruminate what is going to be in future!Both ways we are trapped.Either in past which is now well behind(dead!)or the future which is yet to take a materialize.We are hardly alive in present.When we r living our lives on the basis of dead past or unforseen future how we expect not to be stressed! now what should we do? The formula is very simple though path is not.But if you want to know the "formula" than it was simplified by many real Men/Women in history of mankind.These men/women were Jesus,Budha,Krishan,Mohammed,Teresa--to name a few.
Dont worry,here I am not going to initiate you in something very saintly or Churchly.I want to just repeat only one sermon which all of them uttered and practiced.
"Try to live in present and do well what you have in hand at moment."
This is the only way out to keep out of stress and accumulating it.This is the only summarized way as preached by various books on "Yoga","Vipasana","Zen" etc.
"Just live in present,see in present,act in present."If you start moulding your life you will see your thoughts automatically taking new shapes.Your body will receive then peaceful signals from your mind and you will be at your constructive best. Good luck. Regards, Kuldip
PS* Please never confuse here.Never try to forcefully eliminate the old thoughts or future thoughts from your mind.You can not do it by any method.Idea here is NOT to entertain them much or give too much importance.Let such thoghts come and if you dont entertain them they will flee.No need to force anything.If something happened in past take it as expereince only NOT as something which will always repeat itself.Similarly planning for future is one thing and fearing for future is another thing.Former is desirable but later one will only produce stress.
for me..i thinks stress is one things that can help us for study medicine ..lol
so i call it " positive stress " ^^
everybody have stress when exam is coming... well - in that time we cant get out of stress ..but we can live with it .. manage it ! ...change stress to be the power which can drive ur spiritual for concentrate with our study and drive us to be hardworking person..
Dear joon, Both u and Suraj are talking about two different kinds of stress. What Suraj means by stress here,is what is produced by our conflicts,images,thought churnings..etc.Main source of this stress is at EGO(our false sense of being) level.This is perceived usually in many forms ie.unease,discomfort both at mental and physical level,fears,impending sense of doom,loss of concentration and energy,chronic fatigue,irritation,anger,dejections,depressions.... with this stress your body and mind are never energized.Mind gets confused and body looses its energy & vitality.It is usually a chronic malady & always deleterious in effects over body and psyche.
Whereas what you are talking about is different kind of stress.Your's is body and mind's natural response to a challenging situation by secreting various harmones and preparing mind-body to asses,fight,overcome the challenge or if the challenge is too risky--fright & flight may also be taken by organism.Such stress response is usually beneficial because mind is more attentive and body more responsive and energetic.Such stress has short life both in measure and response.
Leaving aside all this talk,Suraj,I just want to ask few questions to you. You have written ....there are lots of stress during students(Medical) life... Just tell me my dear what sort of stress are you in? Stdents dont have to earn money during their studies.As far as I know,Asian students are very lucky.Their parents give all the needed money & support to their sons/daughter even if these parents have to go hungry.May God bless them all! As student you dont have to bother about arranging clothes or paying fees to "your" children or earn for your spouses becuase majority of you students are unmarried.All your expenses are somehow managed by your hard working,honest parents so that you can study in comfort and make your life. family of all you students try to give as much emotional support as possible so that you are not in stress but tell me how many times you young men and women write a letter to your parents thanking them?Though you may be finding time to e-chat all night to some "friend" of your's? How many times many of you go to your humble mother and kiss her hands in thanks who always think about your welfare sitting in some remote village or small town? Have you students ever glance at the cheap quality of clothes your hard working father has started wearing lately,so that he can save some more and send it you?Although you people may be thinking hundreds of times daily about what to wear just to impress your girlfriend/boyfrind? How many times you students gave some token gift to your humble father and older brother on his birthday although you may have given or thinking to give, many costly gifts to your so called "friend" or your "date".
What sort of stress you students are talking when you have only one goal at this time in your life that is your studies, for which you are provided everything possible by your hard working humble parents. I will only say ---Clarify your own perceptions.Dont talk about life's stress now.You students have yet to come to realities of real life's stresses.Studentship is the most blessed period of life.Utilize it.Think about your father's misty eyes which is harbouring some dreams for You.
PS* Please dont misunderstand me.I wish and mean well to anyone reading these lines.This was a general reply for any student who is thinking like you. word "you" in my reply is not personal for anyone.
Finally I would like all students to read a beautiful book,PRACTICING POWER OF NOW by Eckhart Tolle. It is one the most influencing,practical book,I have ever read.It has practical power to remove most of life's conflicts and stresses.
I will just give you one "mantra" which worked when I was studying medicine in college.May be it may help you too.
Everday in your college,Please just remember once for few seconds your father's and mother's eyes when you last saw them. This will bring you back in focus and remind you your goals and roots.Their softened facial features and heavy throat with which they bid you farewell will fill you with true love,the eternal love which has power to fulfil you,power to make you determined.
Try it in earnestness.May be it will bring back peace and focus in you too.
